Questo progetto oltre ad essere un tributo al Bottego, antico abitante del palazzo che ha ospitato la mostra nel novembre 2006 (palazzo Pigorini a Parma), vuole essere un lavoro sull’elevazione. Nell’opera sono ritratti una serie di indigeni che il Bottego antropologo incontrò durante la sua esplorazione del fiume Giuba. Ogni tavola è costituita da una serie di legnetti accostati che sostengono le foto sezionate e stampate su carta trasparente.
Ho scelto di utilizzare il legno come elemento terreno e primordiale. In fase di ideazione non mi interessa  il risultato estetico dell’opera finita perchè per me è il naturale raggiungimento di una serie di valutazioni pratiche e concettuali. Queste assicelle sono tutte recuperate da pallet, i bancali che si utilizzano per trasportare le merci (mansione che spesso questi Indigeni ricoprivano durante le spedizioni di fine ‘800).  Il legno è di conifera – essenza arborea dalla cui resina si ricava l’incenso – e qui mi riaggancio all’idea di ascesa. Lavorando in questa direzione e quasi per andare a recuperare l’anima dell’immagine ho scelto di rappresentare la fotografia attraverso l’ombra che questa proietta sul supporto per darle una sorta di dipendenza dalla luce - elemento vitale tanto per gli alberi da cui provengono  questi legni quanto per la fruibilità dell’opera. È infatti possibile vederla nella sua completezza solamente se questa è posta ad una determinata distanza e posizione  rispetto la fonte luminosa. Questi guerrieri hanno le loro lance, il loro elemento di difesa, attacco e stato sociale in posizione di quiete le tendono verso l’alto, verso la luce appunto ed è per questo che le ho evidenziate.

This project is a tribute to Vittorio Bottego who was born in the building where I showed this work for the first time. I introduced several ancient inhabitants: A series of portraits of the natives that Bottego met during his exploration of the Giuba river along the Ethiopia-Somalia border.. Each work consists of a series of wood strips that support the photos printed on transparent paper. I chose to use the wood as an earthy and primordial element. I am not interested in the aestethic results of the portraits because for me the series is the natural achievement of a practical and conceptual appraisals. The small strips of wood are all obtained from a pallet which was used to the transport  oods  (a task often assigned to Aborigines during shipments at the end of `800). The wood is from a conifer - incense is made from the resin of this essence - and I can return to the idea of elevation here. Working in this direction and almost in order to recover the spirit of the image, I chose to represent the photography through the shadow that It reflects on the support in order to make it depend on light - a vital element both for the trees from which these woods come and for the visibility of the work. In fact, it is possible to see it as a whole only if it is put to one at a certain distance and position from the source of light. These soldiers have their lances, theirs element of defence, attack and social status in a position of quiet stilness, they put them upwards, precisely  towards the light, and this is why I pointed them out.
